Obituary for Louise Isom

On December 24, 2024, Louise Reuben Isom peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, laughter, and love. Born in Camden, Alabama, on December 28, 1937, to the late Frank and Sarah Reuben, Louise embodied strength and a passion for life. She attended Camden Academy High School and Tuskegee University.

Louise shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with her soulmate, the late David Isom, Sr., whom she cherished since childhood. After his passing in 2018, she held his memory close, honoring their enduring bond. Family was at the heart of Louiseโ€™s life. She deeply loved her siblings, cherishing her relationships with her sister, Jesse Mae, and brothers, Sam Frank and Ben. She carried the memories of her late siblingsโ€”A.I., Atney, Robert, William, Betty Lee, Jesse Lee, Isabell, and Willa Maeโ€”with profound love and reverence.

Louiseโ€™s vibrant spirit lit up every room. Known for her laughter and warmth, she was the familyโ€™s energetic matriarch, bringing loved ones together over delicious feasts and lively board games. She balanced discipline with humor, extending her maternal care to all children in the neighborhood, who adored her in return.

As a mother and grandmother, Louise fiercely protected and nurtured her children, starting each day with a home-cooked breakfast and a loving wave goodbye as they left for school (up through high school). Her unwavering pride and love were felt by everyone in her care. A woman ahead of her time, Louise embraced fitness well into her 80s, maintaining her health with daily neighborhood walks.

In her younger years, she enjoyed cycling and visits to the local YMCA. Her impeccable sense of style was a hallmark of her personality. A true fashionista, she loved shopping and even dabbled in sewing her own outfits, showcasing her creativity and flair.

Louise dedicated her career to Mellon Bank, where she worked for decades in the financial services industry before retiring. Her professionalism and work ethic were admired by all who knew her.

She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her children, David Isom, Jr. of Boston, Carole Isom-Barnes (Reginald) of North Carolina, and Donald Isom (Marlyne) of Brockton, and beloved daughter, the late Gloria Isom; her grandchildren, Tyesha Isom, Davian Isom, Tara Isom, Courtney Isom, Christian Isom, Jordan Isom, and Julian Isom; her great-grandchildren, Deja Isom, Saniyia Isom and her step-grandchildren, Demetri Bodden, Taronna Davis, Ashley Barnes, Troy Barnes, and RJ Barnes. Louiseโ€™s life was a testament to love, laughter, and living fully. Her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Visitation will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE on Friday, January 3 from 11AM - 12PM. Funeral Service to begin at 12 PM. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.

To the entire family my thoughts and prayers are with you. My friend Carol shared many stories of her parents and how she was brought up. Truly their light shines on her and I am sure the entire family. May God continue to pour out his blessings on you all. Greg Waters
