Obituary for Lola B. Wattree

Lola B. Wattree was born on May 29, 1934, in Benton, Louisiana to the late Monroe Gladney Sr. and Penie Gladney.

Lola was united in marriage to the late Leonard R. Wattree in the late 1950’s in Louisiana. They moved to Boston where Leonard was stationed in Fort Devens, Massachusetts to begin and raise a family. From this union they had 5 daughters.

Lola began a career in Boston at Peter Bent Brigham (Brigham and Women’s Hospital) in the mid 1970’s in the dietary department, where she stayed for several years and later went to work on the floors as a dietician and hostess greeting the patients and making sure everyone had the correct diet. She had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. Everyone loved her spirit. During her employment, she made many friends that became her family.

As time went by, she attended Bunker Hill Community College where she received her associate degree. After almost 30 years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she decided to go towards a different direction and started going to bible studies. Following the words of Jehovah, she decided to get baptized on February 3rd, 1995. Lola remained an active publisher of the Cummings Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 26.9 years. She was devoted and faithful to Jehovah. She was known as “The Candy Lady” within the congregation. She enjoyed doing the work for Jehovah. Outside of the congregation she enjoyed helping others, spending time with her family and dancing every chance that she could get. She also loved to cook, she made the best cornbread muffins. As Lola settled in Boston, she found a love for a good card game.

Lola will forever be missed and remembered for her infectious laugh, her comical stories, her advice, her smile and her loving and generous ways.

She is survived by her loving daughters Argie F. Gladney of Houston, TX, Joyce R. Hunter of San Antonio, TX, Gwendolyn Ellis of Hope Mills North Carolina, Patricia Wattree of Boston MA and Ozetta L. Blenman of Boston, MA; Her two sisters Doris Mullen and Ruby Allen of Shreveport, LA, and her sister in-law Margaret Gladney of Shreveport LA; 9 grandchildren, Victor Martin, Benjamin Thompson, Damien Ivory, Raja Wheaton, Albert Martin, Stephan Hunter, Leonard Ellis, Jaida Montgomery and Kyzel Blenman; 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents Monroe Gladney Sr. and Penie Gladney, her late husband Leonard R. Wattree, her brothers Ben Gladney, Johnny Gladney, Monroe Gladney Jr. and Albert Gladney, three sisters, Mary B Vailes, Marie Henderson and Louise Gladney Taylor.
