Obituary for Leroy Sylvester Ryner, Jr.

On April 6, 2006, our world was forever changed by the arrival of our beautiful, precious baby boy born to us, Paula and Leroy Ryner Sr., better known as “Onion”. LJ was a gift we could never have imagined; he was a miracle sent from God. The joy of his birth was immeasurable, and for his father, Leroy Sr., the moment was especially meaningful as he welcomed his firstborn child—a bond of love, pride, and legacy. We named him Leroy Sylvester Ryner Jr., though to most, he was known as LJ.

LJ’s short life was filled with milestones and memories that we will cherish forever. He attended The Sarah Greenwood Elementary School, then West Middle School in Brockton, and was a student at Boston Tech High School when his life was tragically cut short.

LJs was a member of BPD Bureau of Community Engagement-We Belong Program. He also attended church with his parents on occasion. Family gatherings and reunions brought out the best in him, as he shared his loving and joyful spirit. He loved sports, video games, and connecting with those around him. The yearly family cruises were some of his happiest memories. LJ couldn’t wait to be old enough to join the adults and enjoy the “grown-up” experiences.

LJ’s infectious smile drew people to him. He had a rare ability to make people laugh, feel loved, and brighten even the darkest moments. His kindness, warmth, and wit touched the lives of all who knew him. LJ’s memory will forever inspire us to be more loving, more compassionate, and to never take a single moment for granted.

Though his time with us was heartbreakingly brief, LJ’s legacy will live on in the love he shared, the laughter he gave, and the connections he made with those around him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life.

Rest in peace, our beloved Leroy Ryner, Jr. Your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
