Laurinda M. Alves, 91, of Quincy, passed away on May 1, 2021 surrounded by loving family members and caregivers.

Born on the island of Fogo in the Cape Verde Islands, she was the daughter of Manuel Resende do Canto (Bababa) and Rita Monteiro do Canto. Laurinda was married to the late Pedro Alexandrino da Silva Fernandes with whom she had three children. She immigrated to the United States in 1964 to join her siblings who were living here.

Laurinda was an avid bingo player and most nights she could be found in bingo halls around Dorchester and Quincy. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with her large extended family and numerous friends. Above all, she was extremely proud of her three children, Eunice Fernandes and her partner Thomas Hopkins of Milton, Miguel Fernandes and his wife Mite of Taunton, and Sebastian Fernandes and his wife Julie of Nixa, Missouri. Adoring grandmother to Dino Fernandes of Taunton, Nicole Fernandes of California, Marcus (wife Marcela) Fernandes of Nevada, and great-grandmother to Landon Fernandes of Taunton and Christian who is due on the 28th of May. She is survived by brothers Licinio do Canto of Milton, Justiniano do Canto of Brazil, sister Ludovina Monteiro do Canto and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Due to Covid and out of concern for the health and safety of family and friends, services will be private.
