Obituary for Kenol Pierre
Kenol Pierre passed away on early Sunday morning of March 20th, 2022.
Kenol Pierre was born June 20, 1944 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to the late Dieuseul Pierre and Julia Joseph. He was the eldest of four children. His younger sister Lilianne Pierre in Haiti proceeded him in death and he is survived by his two younger brothers Pryor Joseph and Jean David Pierre.
He spent his formative years attending school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was a head-strong and willful child with a passion for education and science. His father had hoped for him to carry on the family business but Kenol decided at a very young age, that he would become a notable man of stature in medicine. Despite his father not fully supporting his dream, he was determined to make his dream of becoming a doctor a reality. As a young adult, equipped with his suitcase, determination, and self-reliance, Kenol traveled to France to study medicine. But the circumstances of life led him to immigrate to America and settled in Brooklyn, New York in the late 1960s. He received his medical laboratory technician certificate at The Manhattan Medical Assistants’ School in 1973. After earning his certification, he chose to move to Boston Massachusetts as both discriminatory practices and the competitiveness of the New York job market threatened to derail his trajectory. Shortly after his arrival in Boston Massachusetts, he enrolled at Boston State College and earned his bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine in 1981. Unfortunately, he never got his license to practice because he decided to pursue his career in pharmacy. Thus, he then attended the pharmacy program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health. Unfortunately, he was forced to drop out of the program due to financial struggles and responsibilities as a father. However, since he had experience of private tutoring students in math and science in Haiti, he finally decided to pursue his career in education. Kenol’s self-determination took on a life of his own and would not allow him to give up his dream, despite existing racial tensions, opposition, and limited resources. In 1985, Boston Public School’s offered him a teaching position in both high and elementary schools, which he gladly accepted. In the same year, he meet and married his wife, Marie Lourdes Bazile, who became his makeshift companion. He taught until he retired in 2009.
During his tenure as a teacher, Kenol proved instrumental and served as a liaison between the Haitian community and Boston’s general public at large. He assisted other noteworthy Haitian immigrants, intent on becoming doctors, nurses, lawyers, and engineers in America, who were bogged down in jobs of servitude, to transition into the professional realm of educational betterment, he continued in his own pursuits of education. He studied and obtained his Master’s in Education from Fitchburg State University. In his later years, Kenol did suffer several health setbacks which would serve to prevent him from achieving his goals in the medical field. Nevertheless, his life choices, determination, and self-reliance did allow him to become a notable man of stature who with his passing leaves an indelible mark on his family members, friends, Haitian community members, and on the lives of all of those individuals with whom he came in contact with.
In his own way, he was a loving father, a caring husband, and a man of honor. He helped a lot of people friends and families. He leaves behind his wife, Marie Lourdes Bazile-Pierre; his three remaining sons Ludney Pierre, Karl Pierre, and Carlo Cheresier-Pierre, as his eldest son Vladimir Pierre proceeded him in death; his two daughters Kennette Pierre and Junith Rebecca Pierre; as well as his grandchildren Stephanie Pierre, Kimberly Pierre, Ludlyne Pierre, Keira Pierre-Malcolm, Sophia Pierre, Janiel Pierre, Jonathan Pierre, Christopher Pierre-Hargett, and Sincere Joseph Pierre.
