Obituary for Kathryn L. Middleton
Kathryn L. (Dunton) Middleton, of Milton, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday June 24, 2024.
Kate was the beloved wife of Patrick J. Middleton and the loving mother of Sophie F. and Joseph C. Middleton. She was the daughter of John Dunton and Susan (Lewandowski) Dunton and the sister of Brian (Robyn) Dunton and David (Nikki) Dunton. She was the daughter-in-law of James and Sheila Middleton, and sister-in-law of Jay and his late wife Abby and Maura Middleton. She was the aunt to Noah and Arlo Dunton, Owen and Ethan Dunton, Lola Dunton-Milenkovic, Kahua Dunton, and James and Christopher Middleton. Kate was a beloved niece and cousin to many.
The funeral service will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS Tuesday July 2 at 10:30 AM. There will be visiting hours on Monday, July 1, from 3-7 PM.
Kate was a graduate of Milton Academy (’94), Wesleyan University (’98) and received a Master of Education from Boston University (’14). She was the Lead Writing Specialist at the OWL (Online Writing Lab) in the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University. She was a trustee of Milton Foundation for Education, Town Meeting member, and PTO member as well as the creative and logistical force behind Milton Porchfest, an annual gathering of local musicians who performed at various homes around the town. Her work on local political campaigns and issues inspired so many residents of the town of Milton, and she was never afraid to encourage both lifelong residents and newcomers alike to do the right thing.
She was an avid nature-lover who went on long walks around Turner’s Pond every day and brought us joy with her candid “birdcam” photos as well as her updates on how the beavers are getting on. She was a fierce advocate of protecting nature, once refusing to budge for some thoughtless bike-riders on the Ponkapoag plank trail through the bog. On one Ponkapoag adventure, she was walking alone one day and got stuck in the mud. Consistent with her sense of humor, she pictured future generations finding her remains and initially thinking that she was a bog person, until they noticed the cell phone in her hand. She held a fascination for sharks and a hatred for horses and found great joy in all of the Real Housewives series. She was a loving mother, a caring wife, a great sister, an attentive daughter, an indifferent driver, an enthusiastic cook, a person who singlehandedly kept Spindrift in business (after breaking up with Diet Coke), a deeply invested member of her community, a lifelong Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fan, a lover of live music and supporter of the local music scene, and a great friend to many. She adored her brother Brian’s band Wooden Leg, and the band has issued a statement that they may permanently disband now that their #1 fan is gone.
We miss her so very much.
