Kathleen E. Garvey, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at the age of 71, Thursday February 25, 2021.

Kathy was born January 31, 1950 to Frank and Anne Garvey in Boston, MA. She was raised in Milton with her two sisters, Nancy and Janet.

Kathy graduated from Archbishop Williams in 1968. Growing up she always knew she wanted to be a nurse and earned her degree in Nursing from St. Anselm College in 1972.

After working for a number of years at Boston-area hospitals, and always one to follow her own path, she combined her love of nursing and travel to move to Australia in 1979. She worked at Prince Henry Hospital in Melbourne. While living there she met her husband Doug. They married in 1980 and moved back to Massachusetts in 1981. After welcoming their two children, Matthew and Victoria, Kathy returned to work as a nurse in the 1990’s. She was a nurse for the Weymouth Public Schools until she retired in 2017.

Kathy traveled extensively with her family and was lucky to travel to many places in her life including London, Paris, Brittany, Zurich, Ireland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Cameroon, and a safari in Kenya.

Kathy enjoyed many of life’s pleasures. Among her favorites were gardening, museums, dance and theater. She was a huge fan of the Boston Celtics and Red Sox. She was an avid baker known for her Thanksgiving apple pies and enjoyed sharing her baking talents with her grandchildren. She loved celebrating the holidays with her entire family and decorated every inch of the house. Over the years she amassed an extensive collection of astonishing sweaters and jewelry for every holiday.

Everyone who knew Kathy will remember her vibrant life of the party personality, sense of humor, and her wild use of colorful language. The parties in heaven just got a lot more fun.

Kathy is survived by her husband Douglas Walton, her son Matthew Walton, his wife Gina and grandchildren Emma and Liam, of Weymouth and her daughter Victoria Walton of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by her sister Nancy and brother-in-law George Oliveira of Portsmouth, RI, her sister Janet Garvey of Boston, MA, her nephew David Oliveira, his wife Nicole, and their children Keenan, Kailey, and Kendyl of Portsmouth, RI, as well as her niece Laurie Oliveira of Portsmouth, RI.

Visiting hours Wednesday, March 3rd 10:30-12:30 at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE followed by a private funeral service. All are invited for interment at Milton Cemetery. The family will be having a celebration of life at a later time.
