Obituary for Joy Paula (Flick) Wallace
Joy Paula (Flick) Wallace age 84, passed away April 19, 2025, after a long illness.
Joy was the widow of William "Bill" Wallace, to whom she was married for over fifty years. Joy was the beloved sister of the late Edward J. Flick; and mother of Karen E. Wallace.
Born in New York City in 1940, Joy graduated from Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, CUNY (B.S.N.) and Columbia University (M.S.N.), with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health. Joy started her clinical career performing in-service education, a role in which she flourished training nurses, support staff, and patients from varied backgrounds. Following, Joy took a trip abroad to Europe; where she met Bill, avionics engineer, who was also on his first overseas excursion. Their courtship ensued Stateside; where they frequently traveled between their respective homes in New York and Massachusetts. In February 1971, they married and soon settled in Milton. Here they resided until relocating to Florida in 2006.
Diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in her thirties, Joy fought the disease valiantly and became a beacon of strength to those around her. Although the illness recurred for a fourth time, Joy never conceded her daily routine nor positive attitude. Throughout this long journey, Joy often helped other fellow survivors, many of whom were strangers, offering advice and support as they navigated their own challenges. In her spare time, Joy was a masterful knitter, among her other talents, and volunteered with many philanthropic organizations.
