Obituary for Joseph Patrick Queally Sr.

Joseph P. Queally Sr., of Milton, MA passed away on February 3rd at the age of 91.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (O'Halloran) Queally (2011). Joe is survived by his four children Bernadette (Steve) Lundbohm, Joseph (Catherine) Queally, Brian Queally and Desmond (Denise) Queally, all of Milton. Joe was also a loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of with whom he had a special relationship. Joe leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews who he treated like his own and who in turn all showed him so much love and support later in life.

Joe was born in Doolin, Co Clare, Ireland in 1933. He was the youngest of 10 children and now has been reunited with all his amazing siblings. Joe came to the United States at age 14 and was embraced by his sister Mary “Mommy” Meade. Mommy Meade and her husband Jim raised Joe along with their six children.

Joe was a man of strong faith. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain’s assistant. This enabled Joe to travel the world and ultimately connect with the siblings in Europe he had never met before.

Joe met his beloved wife Mary through the Boston Irish social scene and they married in April of 1960. They created a successful life together through hard work, determination, and much love and respect for each other.

Joe and Mary enjoyed traveling to their homeland Ireland annually. They would pack up the four children and spend summers abroad sharing their love for the country and passing along stories of their Irish heritage.

One of Joe’s favorite pastimes was golf. Joe was a long-standing member of Wollaston Golf Club, Milton. His love for golf began when he caddied there in his youth. Joe was also an avid walker; he would never be seen taking a golf cart at Wollaston!

Joe was a beautiful, caring man who will be missed by so many. We love you, Dad.

Mr. Q was the best! I can't help but think back to the storm on '78 when he would take every kid in the neighborhood for snowmobile rides. One of my favorite memories as a kid. He'll be sorely missed.
