Obituary for Joseph P. Clancy

Joseph P. Clancy passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 at his home in Milton surrounded by his loving wife of 54 years and his four devoted children. Born in County Leitrim, Ireland to the late Paddy Joe and Mary (McLaughlin) Clancy, he is survived by wife Geraldine Clancy of Milton, children Mike Clancy of Braintree, Michelle Clancy of Milton, Erin Clancy of Milton and Joseph Clancy of Braintree, in-laws Julie, Bob (fiancé), Nahel, and Sheila, 10 beautiful grandchildren-Marykate, Caroline, Owen, Andrew, MP, Cate, Joe-Joe, Coleman, Faith and Georgie, beloved sister in law Mary (Baby) O’Donnell and her son Joey, brothers Eugene, Pat, Gerard, Anthony and Peter, sisters Kathleen, Bernie, Annabee, and predeceased by siblings Tommy, Mickey, Margaret, and Bridgie. Joe also leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews.

At age 19, Joe followed his brother, Tommy, and moved to the US and was welcomed with love by his aunts and their families. Soon thereafter, Joe met the love of his life, Geraldine DeCourcey, at a dance in Dorchester and they married in November 1969 at St Marys of the Hills church in Milton. Joe was welcomed with open arms by the DeCourcey family of Roundstone, County Galway and the Clancy and DeCourcey families formed a long lived bond.

Joe soon embarked on a successful real estate sales career. He founded Tullish and Clancy Real Estate in Weymouth in 1972. With his partner, Jack Tullish, he built Tullish & Clancy into a successful real estate firm for 50 plus years while proudly welcoming 2 sons into the family business. Joe shared a life long passion for investing in real estate and some of his proudest business successes were with his investment partner and closest friend, Bob Tullis.

Joe loved his years involved in Rotary and the many friendships that were formed. He was a past president of the Weymouth Rotary Club and was the District Governor for District 7950 in 2012. He was an inspirational and compassionate leader in the District and continued to be a friend and mentor to Rotary.

Joe was proud to have raised his family in the Town of Milton. Some of the happiest moments of his life were at Cunningham Park and Churchill’s Lane coaching the Orioles and Kiwanis. He loved watching the Milton AC summer ball teams and he was immensely proud to be recently inducted into the Milton American Little League Hall of fame. From Huntington Road to Patricia Drive, he built lifelong memories and friendships none greater than his dear friends Tom and Nancy Ryan.

In his later years, Joe could be seen enjoying as many sports games and events as he could on those same fields watching his grandkids. He loved to travel back and forth from Milton to Braintree and all over Massachusetts watching his grandkids sporting events and dance competitions. Joe’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and their greatest joy was spending time with their Papa.

Joe Clancy was a proud man of his family, and his heritage and his profession. Joe was not a prideful man, but a humble man who I learned a lot from. Joe was quiet and unassuming, but very present and shared his wisdom without coming across as overbearing or authoritative. So blessed to have known Joe and call him a colleague and friend. RIP Joe Clancy🙏✝️

My favorite coach & mentor is Mr. Clancy. I grew up with Joey and Michael, & Mrs. Clancy was amazing. I was lucky enough to meet Michelle and Erin, but I really didn't know them as well. I met Mrs. Clancy, and loved her very much. She, & the entire family was the salt of the earth.

Geraldine and Family, my sincere sympathy and prayers for the loss of Joe. It has been many years since I have talked with him. He was a wonderful man to work for as an agent for almost 20 years, full of kindness, knowledge and gentle guidance. If it was not for my move to PA I probably would still be there. He was extremely generous on several occasion when family emergency strike my family. For that I will be ever grateful. May the good Lord comfort you and your family and may your memories which are many hold you until you meet again on the other side. April Senseney

My deepest sympathies to my second family. Joe was a great man with the kindest soul. To us, he was our second Dad, always there for us. I envision him up with my Dad trying to sell rental space to angels in waiting to cloud 8, because it's a bargain compared to cloud 9. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you during this healing time. May he rest in peace knowing you have so many people who love and care for you all. All our love, Terry Fraser, Tim, Ally and Kate

Dear Geraldine & Family, My sincere sympathy to you all in the loss of Joe; Husband, Dad, Grandad, Brother & Friend to many. He was a man of strength, love & joy & He loved His Family fiercely! My Dad, (Joe Dillon, RIP), loved him dearly & prayed for him everyday. He would say, "I wish I could get down (from NH) to see Joe" & his eyes would fill with tears. He always enjoyed their lively conversations & looked forward to their visits together. Joe was always so kind to me as well. I know you'll miss him terribly, I feel your sorrow. Perhaps, He & those who have gone before him will be serenading Jesus with some Irish tunes! The Bible says there "is no pain/ suffering in heaven". He has Peace. My love & prayers to you all. Shaelagh "Shay" Brigid Dillon.
