Obituary for Joseph Cullen

Joseph Cullen, 55, of Holbrook, previously of Milton, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 31, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents John J. Cullen and Natalia (Zanolo) Cullen.

Beloved husband of Mary Theresa (Todd) Cullen. Loving father of Delaney Anna Cullen and her partner Wayne Norling, Maximus Aurelius Cullen, and Marcus Logan Cullen. Grandfather of Wayne Joseph Norling IV. Brother of Margaret Cullen Walsh and her husband Michael, Joanne Cullen, Edward Cullen and his wife Ella, and Peter Cullen. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe graduated from Milton High School where he received his vocational degree in masonry. He was a talented mason and started his own business, D.A.C. Masonry, before spending many years working for Joseph Botti Co Inc., in Easton. Joe married the love of his life, Theresa, in 2005 and moved to Holbrook to start a family. He was a devoted father and husband and loving grandfather.

Joe, his wife, and their two boys were avid football watchers and die-hard Patriots fans. Joe had a profound love for the outdoors and all things adventure. He loved summers spent at the Cape and enjoyed many camping trips throughout New England, he especially enjoyed chasing storms at the beach. He loved cookouts by the pool. He remained a kid at heart and his time was usually best spent doing that which he loved most in the world, spending time with his children, nieces, and nephews.

Joe was known for his humor and quick wit and always brought a smile and a laugh to every situation. He was a man who was so much larger than life in every way that one could be. He was fearless, daring, and adventurous. He found peace, purpose, and love through sobriety. He was an active and beloved member of the AA Chapter In The Wind, based in Holbrook. The legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness; he never failed to help a friend or a stranger who might someday be a friend.

The hole Joe leaves behind is immense and his family asks that those who loved him try to fill it with love. Be brave like Joe. Love like Joe. Find joy like Joe. Be kind like Joe.

Condolences

  • March 23, 2024

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He sounds like he was a wonderful man. Would this be the same Joseph Cullen who scaled the wire supporting the screen behind home plate at Fenway Park on July 20th, 1988 in the 10th inning? If so, it was one of the most brazen, amazing things I have ever seen in my life. Truly the stuff of legend.
