Obituary for John T. O'Donnell

John Thomas O’Donnell died on October 10, 2021 at the age of 95.

Born in Boston on June 3, 1926 to Thomas P. O’Donnell and Helen (Dolan) O’Donnell. John attended Milton Public Schools, graduating from Milton High School in 1944. John joined the Navy later in 1944 after being employed by the Keystone Camera Company in Dorchester. He was assigned to the 115 Naval Construction Battalion. He participated in the New Guinea campaign and the liberation of the Philippines. He was stationed in Subic Bay. After he was discharged John attended U Mass based at Fort Devens MA and later transferred to Mass Maritime Academy. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Marine Engineering License and a U.S. Navy Commission. He was employed at Employers Group and later at One Beacon Insurance Company as a Boiler Inspector and Safety Engineer. John was a past commodore of the Milton Yacht Club as well as a life member of the club. He built several boats and served as the Milton Harbormaster for over 15 years. John was also an avid hunter and fisherman, maintaining a fish and hunting camp in Ellsworth, New Hampshire.

John was predeceased by his three sisters, Marie Hughes, Maureen O’Donnell, and Marilyn O’Donnell. He is survived by his niece Karen Hughes of Rhode Island.

Visitation in the Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Friday, October 15, 2021, 9-10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 15, 2021 in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton, at 10:30 am. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
