Obituary for John G. Falvey
John G. Falvey, age 75, of Braintree, formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla., died peacefully, Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in the comfort of his loving family.
John was born in Boston, to the late John G. and Marie U. (Salvi) Falvey. Raised and educated in Dorchester and South Boston, he was a graduate of South Boston High School. He lived in Braintree for the past several months, previously in West Palm Beach, Fla. for over twenty years, and earlier in Braintree for twenty years.
He was employed as a master furniture refinisher for many years.
Active in community affairs, he was a member and past president of the Quincy Sons of Italy and was a member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks and the West Palm Beach Lodge of Elks.
John and his late wife, Barbara, loved traveling and took many cruises.
He was an avid Boston sports fan and as a younger man, enjoyed playing softball with the Walsh’s Tavern team in the Boston Softball League.
Above all, John was deeply devoted to his family, giving them everything he had. He supported their many activities and celebrated their countless achievements. His wisdom and love will remain in their hearts, and they will be forever grateful for the life they shared with him.
John was a beloved husband for fifty-two years of the late Barbara I. (Miles) Falvey.
Devoted father of Deborah A. Durgin of Boston.
Loving grandfather of Keith A. Durgin of Gorham, Maine, Jennifer L. Durgin and her fiancé Matthew Pore of Falmouth, Maine. Cherished “Puppy” of Kylee, Jackson, Carter, Madison, Jetty, and Kenny.
He was the dear brother of Daniel J. Falvey of Walpole, Richard F. Falvey and Lorraine Puglisi of Quincy, and the late Robert B. Falvey and his late wife Nancy.
Dear cousin of Lori (DiBernardini) Jackson and her husband John of Braintree. Special cousin of Joseph DiBernardini of Fla. and his late wife Joan.
Brother-in-law of Elia “Mike” Falvey of Dracut.
Father-in-law of the late Mark Durgin of Limington, Maine.
John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree, on Monday, September 16, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, East Milton, on Sunday, September 15, from 2 – 5 p.m. Interment private
