Obituary for John Donnelly, Jr.

John J. Donnelly, 59, passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2024. He was the son of the late Donna Damon and Roger Damon. Although John was born with cerebral palsy, he never let that stop him or get in the way of reaching for his dreams.

John spent most of his childhood growing up in Dorchester. When he was ready to move out, he found the help of United Cerebral Palsy of MetroBoston who supported him in various apartments and, most recently, at a home in Hyde Park, MA.

John was a caring and outgoing guy, loved by many who had the pleasure of knowing him. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite New England sports teams, listening to old time country western music, and frequenting Dunkin Donuts for his signature iced coffee. John never let his challenges get in the way of working a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime.

John is survived by four brothers Michael and Marybeth Donnelly of Brockton, MA; Robert and Angela Donnelly of Weymouth, MA; William Donnelly of CT & Roger Damon of Rockland, MA. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, as well as numerous friends and caregivers.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 19 at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norwood. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to United Cerebral Palsy of MetroBoston, 71 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

Everyone would often tease John but he wouldn't get mad he would laugh and once he started laughing everyone around him would laugh I think everyone that teased him did it so he would laugh not because they were being mean but because everyone loved to hear him laughing
