Obituary for Joan P. Norville
We are sad to announce the passing of Joan P. Norville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, on May 8, 2024.
Joan was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Joseph and Miriam Forrester (Deceased) on July 21, 1940. She is the 4th eldest daughter out of eleven children. She attended Bedford Public School in Guyana. Joan began her career working at Guyanese Legislative Assembly. In 1962, Joan met her future husband, Michael. They married on December 18, 1965. Both Michael and Joan had big dreams that extended outside of Guyana. In January of 1968, Joan took the first step towards their new life and headed to the United States to live in Brooklyn, New York. Michael joined her shortly thereafter to begin their new life in America. Their plan became grander, and in 1972, they moved to Boston where they joined other family members.
In Boston, Joan began her long-standing career as Home Health Aide for Suburban Helping Hands. In December of 2019, she retired after 40 years of dedicated service to her clients. Joan will be remembered for kind and nurturing spirit. She was dependable and selfless when it came to taking care of her clients and others.
Joan was involved in the Guyanese community serving as an active member of Guyana Friends Association of Massachusetts. She was an avid donor to many charities such as Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, St. Jude, Catholic charities, and volunteered for many charitable organization walks. Joan was a devoted christian and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Dorchester.
She had several hobbies. She enjoyed reading magazines, the bible, and Daily Word. She also enjoyed completing crossword and Word Search puzzles; attending musicals and plays; and spending time in her garden each season. In the summer, you can always find Joan with her husband, Michael, sitting on their front porch. Joan was a social butterfly and never shied away from talking to others and spending time with her family.
Joan is preceded by her parents Joseph and Miriam Forrester and siblings, Doreen Forrester, Jillian Howard, John Forrester, and Yvonne Forrester. She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Norville; and three daughters, Jewell Norville, Suzan Gedeon and her husband, Marty Gedeon, Cheryl Norville; and her three grandsons, Richard Scott, Michael Gedeon, and Jaylen Scott; and her siblings, Jean Thomas, Joyce Arthur, June Forrester, Joseph Forrester Jr., Ian Forrester, and Cheryl Forrester. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Joan will be lovingly remembered for her kind spirit, wise advice, genuineness, and hard work ethic. May the memories of her bring you peace and comfort and her light continue to shine through those she loved and cared for.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us during this time of loss and ask for you to continue to pray for us as we get through this difficult time.
