Obituary for Jimmie Moore

Jimmie L. Moore passed away on October 11, 2023, with family at his side at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a period of failing health due to complications from COVID. He was 77 years young.

Jimmie was born to Mami McCullum and John Henry Moore on August 18, 1946, in the small town of Heidelberg, MS. After graduating from high school, Jimmie moved to Boston, MA. He loved sports, especially softball where he played for many years at Washington Park. He also played on the bowling league for many years, which is where he met the love of his life, Delores. Jimmie loved playing spades and believed he was the top man that no one could beat! One of Jimmie’s fears was flying, however, he would not hesitate to fly when it meant going to Atlantic City or Las Vegas.

After moving to Boston, Jimmie had several jobs before landing at Sears, where he worked for more than 10 years. Following in his father’s footstep of working for the rail system, he landed his dream job at Amtrak (Keolis), where he retired from in 2020. He had such love for the train that he would rather spend a day and a half on the train to Mississippi rather than fly, which would take only hours.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Mami McCullum and John Henry Moore, brothers, Russell Thomas, and John William Moore. He also leaves behind two sisters, Ernie L. Moore Brown, and Betty L. Moore Bender, daughters, Sharon Moore and Valerie Moore, son, James Moore, stepchildren, Angela (Michael), Keith, Herbert (Stephanie), and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving partner of over 40 years, Delores Johnson.
