Obituary for Jean Denis Fanfan
Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan transitioned into Glory peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023, after a battle with a short illness. He was 82 years old. Mr. Fanfan was born in Delmas, Fragneauville in Haiti, on December 5, 1940. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan was the youngest brother of nine children born to the late Lovanus Fanfan and the late Brigida Charles. Mr. Fanfan’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life. At a young age, he fell in love with God which lasted a lifetime. Although he worked as a carpenter, nevertheless, his true calling was to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1960, Mr. Fanfan went to a missionary program at Fisher in Delmas 75, Haiti, to become a pastor. In 1963, he married his first wife, the late Cherizanne Novembre Fanfan whom he met at Croissade Evangelique’s young adult ministry. Together they had six children. In 1964, the launch of his pastoral ministry began, and he traveled into various parts of Haiti, such as Thomond, in order to advance the Kingdom with the Word and the love of God. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan dutifully served as a pastor and a founder of L’Eglise De Dieu De Delmas, which later became known as International Mission Outreach until 1988. In 1988, Mr. Fanfan migrated to Boston, Massachusetts with his oldest son where he joined his late brother, Jean Baptiste Fanfan and his family. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Fanfan brought his first wife and his remaining 5 children to Boston. Mr. Fanfan worked hard to provide for his family and to give a life that he felt they deserved. He worked for many years at Stone and Webster Engineering Co. Shortly, after the death of his first wife in 1998, he retired and continue to minister in the Haitian community. Mr. Fanfan later remarried in 1999 to Marie Genese Paul with whom he had a blended family that loved him dearly and were grateful to have Mr. Fanfan in their lives. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan loved his family. He loved praying with his family and was present in his children’s and grandchildren’s birth or any milestone celebrations. Mr. Fanfan enjoyed going on vacation with his family. For many years, he loved attending KayPam ADH where he often led prayer meetings, preached, uplifted his fellow attendees, and enjoyed KayPam’s social activities. Mr. Fanfan has served faithfully for many years alongside one of his close friends, Pastor Raphael Germain. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan leaves behind to cherish his memory: his widow, Marie Genese Paul, his children and their spouses: Gerda Fanfan and Sergo Myrthil, Jean Kenny and Carline Fanfan, Johane Fanfan and Andrew Mbugua Waweru, Gerald and Joanne Fanfan, Suze and Nickolas DeJarnette, his stepchildren: Paul Marseille and Sadrack Marseille, his sisters: Marie Exantus, Rosette Severe, Olga Dosshe Fanfan, his in-laws: Laurette Fanfan, and Gerard Exantus. Mr. Fanfan is also survived by his 21 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and 8 step-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and along with a loving host of extended relatives: Laborde, Severe, Exantus, Lamy-Filoma, Jacques, Laurent, many friends, and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his daughter: the late Josianne Fanfan Allen, his siblings: Christian Fanfan, Dieudonné Fanfan, Antoine Fanfan, Chavannes Fanfan, Vergneau Fanfan, Jean Baptiste Fanfan, Jean Augustin Charles Fanfan, Germain Fanfan, Marie Lorvanette Laborde, and Louidiana Antoine. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan was a kind, meek, peaceful, committed, determined, and a faithful man of God. He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, a well-respected pastor, a mentor, but most of all a follower of Jesus Christ. A faithful servant who loved God, his family, the church, and community. His family is grateful for many fond memories that they were able to share with Mr. Fanfan during his lifetime. He has left a mark on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our “tigre,” our “Titi,” our “Coq,” our “papa” and his warm smile will be greatly missed. Mr. Jean Denis Fanfan has fought the good fight of faith and now is resting in the loving arms of our God, his Creator. May you know that you are forever in our hearts.
