Obituary for James “Jim” McDonald

James “Jim” McDonald, a lifelong Quincy resident, passed away on Saturday March 5, 2022. He was born in Quincy Hospital and was 64 years old when he passed. Jim went to Quincy High School and worked as an auto mechanic for 25 years. After that he was a custodian at St. Agatha’s School until he retired in 2019.

Jim is survived by his daughter Marie McDonald of Burlington, VT and her mother Marybeth McDonald of Canton, MA to whom he was married for 27 years. He is also survived by his parents Jamie and Pauline McDonald of Hingham, MA; his sister Joanne Marion of Redwood City, CA; his sister Sheila Lightner and her husband Marshal of Jacksonville, OR; his sister Janet Moss and her husband James of Napa, CA; his sister Karen Salvas and her husband Ed of Hanover, MA; and his longtime friend and companion Valerie Westland Tocchio of Quincy, MA. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Throughout his life and even into retirement Jim often spent his free time helping neighbors and friends fix their cars. Whenever someone had car troubles, they called Jim because there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.

Jim was hard-working, patient, kind, and gentle. His greatest pride and joy was his daughter Marie. Jim was loved by his family and friends who are taking solace now that he is at peace.

Visitation will be private, however, a Christian Mass and a celebration of life will be held at a later date for all to attend.
