Obituary for James A. Jordan

On Saturday, June 1, 2024 James A. Jordan gained his heavenly wings; transitioning from labor to reward.

We have had the pleasure to call him husband, dad, brother, uncle, or friend; known as James, Angelo, Jim or Jimmy. Any one of those names will remind you of a man with an infectious smile, a love for his family, friends or anyone in his life he was blessed to know. His children were his heart, his pride, his joy, and the cornerstone of his life.

Born January 11th, 1950 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Dorothy Lee Jordan (Owens) and James O. Jordan both of Suffolk, Virginia, where he was raised and educated until he moved to Boston in 1962. James continued his primary education while living with his aunt and grandmother. Boston became the place where he started, raised his family and began his lifelong career.

At 19 years old he started his career with Verizon as a lineman. He worked his way through various positions which provided him many opportunities to mentor others through training programs, working as a manager allowing him to travel the country and grow staff by educating and opening doors for others. In this position he was able to encourage and support an environment of diversity and inclusion during a time in our society when these traits were not a primary focus or concern in many organizations. He earned the trust of the right people to embrace the forward thinking of others as part of his legacy, one of which is full of respect, admiration, love, and faith.

He loved to eat seafood, salmon and lobster were at the top of his list and he enjoyed cooking his favorite meal, pork chops with stuffing and black-eyed peas. In addition to the love of his favorite foods, gospel, jazz music and sports, we can’t forget his love of his two pet cats “Mr. Peewee and Brooklyn Tiffany; aka Tiffy.

As a lover of our Lord, he was a devoted Deacon at Living Waters COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Charlie Robinson who was also an entrusted friend. He was committed to spreading the love, the light and the Gospel of Jesus Christ when he taught Sunday School and recently in his Bible Study teachings on Tuesday nights. He was preparing himself in the word faithfully and wanted to diligently prepare others. The love of the lord he instilled in us will comfort us through our loss and in the remembrance of all our wonderful memories we have with him.

Preceding him in death are his parents Dorothy Lee Jordan (Owens) and James O. Jordan; and his brother Harvey Chaulk Ash (Barbara), nephew Paul Owens.

Celebrating his memory are his loving wife and companion Deborah; his children Stephen, Angela, Angelina(Jared)[Texas] Katrina(Ryan/Fiancee), Jessica[Indiana]; bonus-children Lisa and Bryant(Deceased); his sisters Paulette(Carlton)[Virginia], Nancy[Florida], Diane(Lee), Beverly(William), his brother Algenon; his bonus brother William [Billy]; his grandchildren Alizeya, Dante, Robert, Elias, Jaden, Jordan, Jared; his bonus grandchildren Michael and Jazmyn; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews family/extended family and friends.

Viewing will be held at the State Temple Church of God In Christ, 16 Fessenden Street, Mattapan on Monday June 17th from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 AM. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery.
