Obituary for Hoyt William Geoffrey Forbes
Hoyt William Geoffrey Forbes passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 with family at his side at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, after a period of failing health. He was 59.
He was born and raised in the South End of Boston, where his friends remember him as an agreeable soul, always blessing his neighbors and classmates with a beautiful smile. Though he had hardships as a child, losing his father, Harry George Forbes, at a young age, Hoyt had an unbeatable sense of humor and an uncanny way of turning the negative into positive.
After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1983, Hoyt attended some college at Salem State and took on various jobs in retail and with the disabled, forging countless friendships that lasted throughout his life. He eventually went into the union trades as an apprentice glazier, graduating to enjoy twenty-five years of making Boston beautiful (Local 1044, loud and proud!).
Hoyt was athletic—an excellent baseball player and devout New England Patriots fan—generous to a fault, competitive, caring, loyal, and always wanting the best for those close to him. He loved and cared for his friends and family as passionately as he loved sports, and if you knew Hoyt, then you know that that love ran deep. Wherever he went in his travels, someone would know him—Hoyt was unique and, at six-foot-four, very recognizable. They'd call out, “Yo, Hoyt!,” and of course he would banter for a few minutes, laugh a lot, and move on with his day. He loved Boston, and when he traveled back and forth from Boston to Jamaica, coming home to the Boston skyline always made him proud.
Hoyt loved many people throughout his life, and people loved Hoyt right back. He was a character, and his smile, laughter, and charm will be missed. Hoyt leaves his wife, Joy (Corwin) Forbes, his daughter, Darragh Regan, his sons, Jae Forbes and Lee Forbes, and his brother, Calvin “Junior” Innerarity. He is predeceased by his father, Harry G. Forbes, and mother, Hazel B. D. (Allen) Forbes.
