Hollins E. Eno aka “Rex” left this world suddenly on June 4, 2022, at age 79. He was born in Tobago, West Indies to Rosamond McKenna and James Eno. He was the youngest son of 8 siblings and the father of 8 children. At the age of 7, he moved to Trinidad and grew up in the Borough of Point Fortin. He earned the nickname “Rex” from a young age and most of us know how he got that name.

He started his career as a Seaman. He worked his way through the ranks to become First Mate with Tidewater Marine, an American company out of Louisiana, based in Guayaguayare, Trinidad. Rex was a natural and there wasn’t an offshore supply boat he couldn’t master.

He met and married his beloved Ivy and had two daughters Maria and Patricia. He also welcomed his stepdaughter, Indra, as part of his family. In addition to his work at sea, Rex and Ivy also owned and operated a popular local restaurant in Point Fortin. In the eighties, the family migrated to the U.S. Rex lived and worked various jobs in Boston, before moving to Texas with Ivy, where they lived until her death in 2001. He then returned to Massachusetts to be close to his daughters and settled in Quincy.

After retirement, Rex was a typical “snowbird”, spending the winter months in his beloved homeland, Trinidad. He had a passion for Jazz music his whole life. He was often called the “PHD of Jazz” since his knowledge on every aspect of jazz was phenomenal! Seemed like there wasn’t a minute that went by when he wasn’t listening to his favorite music. Growing up, both Maria and Patricia were highly influenced by jazz music and he would always quiz them on identifying an artist or tune. Rex also loved having “jazz sessions” and turned many, who were never into jazz music, to become lifetime jazz lovers.

Rex was an excellent cook and his delicious fish dishes was his specialty. He was a military style stickler for neatness and cleanliness. Also particular with his clothing – starched jeans was a must! His favorite pastime was action movies, and a huge fan of basketball and football. He was always on point with his knowledge of current events. Rex had a very charismatic personality, with a unique way of connecting and relating to people in all circles.

He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Always the entertainer, friendly with an infectious laugh. His genuine love of family and friends was undeniable. He is survived by his children and their families, three sisters (Mary, Georgiana and Barbara), many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Rest in Peace Beloved Hollins “Rex”, our hearts are broken and filled with sorrow. In closing, we echo one of his famous quotes, “See you when I see you!”

A Homegoing Service will be Celebrated at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Friday June 17th at 11:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Burial Cedar Grove Cemetery.
