Obituary for Helen Patricia Foley

Helen Patricia (O'Connell) Foley, age 88, of Quincy, passed away on December 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Francis J. Foley of Quincy.

Patricia lived her days helping her family and sharing her Catholic Faith, devoting herself to her parish and the Legion of Mary. Devoted mother of Catherine Usevich and her husband James of Kingston, Joann Squitieri and her husband Philip of Norfolk, Thomas P. Foley of Quincy and Joseph F. Foley and his wife Laura Little Foley of Weymouth. Cherished grandmother of Joseph-James Usevich, Nathan and Julia Foley, and Vlad and Vika Squitieri.

Pat’s Catholic faith was her rock and subsequently she was her family’s “rock.” Pat passionately believed in the power of prayer and Divine Providence. Pat had a remarkable quality of quietly and confidently showing her kids how to live and reminding them of what is important in life. Pat graduated from Boston State Teachers College in 1958, and truly enjoyed instilling in her children and grandchildren a passion for learning and fair-mindedness. One of her favorite past times was sitting in her rocking chair with a grandchild on her lap reading to them.

Pat is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Helen (Driscoll) O’Connell of West Roxbury. She leaves her four siblings Mary Racine of West Roxbury, Joan Howard and Catherine Gallivan of Virginia and Joseph O’Connell of Dartmouth, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

As a woman of strong faith, the wake, Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be at Saint Agatha Parish, 440 Adams St., Milton, MA 02186 Tuesday December 17. Visitation begins at 9 am with the Rosary at 10:15 am and the Mass immediately following. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Agatha School and Parish, 432 Adams Street, Milton, MA 02186 or St. John the Baptist Parish, 44 School Street, Quincy, MA 02169.

I knew Pat from being another long time member of the Saint Agatha Parish community. Being an adoptive parent of a child once in the foster care system Pat was so invested in my child thru the years. ALWAYS supportive & interested in such a loving and enthusiastic way. I hold memories of our interactions and many conversations thru the years close to my heart. My deepest condolences to all of Pat's loved ones.

Patricia was my dearest friend. She was so appreciative, positive, encouraging, and always supportive. She was a marvelous person and a blessing to everyone who knew her. -Daniel Kelley May He support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world lies hushed, and the fever of life is over and our work is done. Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last. -Saint John Henry Newman
