Obituary for Helen M. (Shaw) Carter

Helen M. (Shaw) Carter of Quincy, formerly of Milton passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, at the age of 61 after a long illness. She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her husband of 32 years, Thomas F. Carter and her sons Patrick W. Carter and Sean M. Carter.

Helen grew up in Arlington, where she was raised by the late Gertrude and William Shaw. Helen was one of nine and was an amazing sister to the late Mary (Jack) Mather, Bill (Dave Hoffman) Shaw, Peter (the late Mary Lee) Shaw, Patty (Roland) Feener, Ed (Marsha) Shaw, Susan (Tim) Davis, Barbara (Tom) Tarallo, and Judi Nickels.

She attended Cornell University and worked for almost 40 years at John Hancock Financial, where she held many different positions and worked with many wonderful colleagues, who valued her programming skills and friendship. Helen retired in 2018 so she could spend more time with her family and travel with her husband.

Helen was a music lover. Starting with her early love of the Beatles as well as other rock groups and ending with an unexpected love of Green Day, her passion for music took her to many concerts and plays throughout the years. She also had an extensive vinyl collection which she would often listen to.

She enjoyed going for walks and often went to Ireland where she and her husband had a house outside of Galway near many walking trails. She will be forever remembered for her radiant smile and her unwavering need to help those around her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Parish, 432 Adams St, Milton, MA 02186, Saturday February 12 at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave, Milton, MA 02186, Friday February 11 from 4-8 PM. Burial at Pine Hill Cemetery.
