Obituary for Geraldine Maple (Gantert) Perry
Geraldine Maple (Gantert) Perry, age 85, of Milton, Massachusetts, went home to be with her Lord on October 27, 2024, after a long illness.
She was born October 18, 1939, in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Siegfried (Fred) and Viola Gantert. She graduated as Valedictorian of her High School class in Springhill in 1955 and then came to Massachusetts where she graduated from Eastern Nazarene College with a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1962. She taught elementary school in Wareham, MA. She married Stephen Charles Perry of Wareham in 1963 and then relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL, in 1968. She transitioned to being a church secretary for various pastors and churches for more than three decades. After retirement, she served as a nanny to her daughter and son-in-law’s three children.
She served in elected lay leadership positions in the Church of the Nazarene, serving as president of the youth society in Florida before moving back to Massachusetts and serving as president of the Missionary society for New England churches. She also served on the Global Missionary Council which oversees mission work in more than 165 countries. She traveled on many short term mission projects to places including Peru, Guatemala, Russia, Mexico, Romania, Ethiopia, Barbados, Bermuda, and Canada.
Her hobbies included crafts, painting, tennis, sowing, skiing, and knitting.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Stephen C. Perry, two children, Stephen D. Perry, Ph.D. and Melody Eckardt, M.D., daughter-in-law, Rev. Kay Lynn Perry; sisters Linda Dias and Joy Miller, brother Kirk Gantert; and grandchildren, Alex with his wife Gabrielle, Grace, Sophia, Myles, Katie, and Lexi. She had just become a great-grandmother to Stephen Benjamin Perry.
A Memorial Service will be held December 28th, 2024, at 2 pm at Wollaston Church of the Nazarene 37 E. Elm Avenue, Quincy, MA 02170
