Obituary for Franklyn D. Reid
Franklyn (Andrew/Iraka) D. Reid of Dorchester passed away on June 4, 2022. He was 68 years old.
Andrew was a beloved husband of 45 years to Lynda Reid. He was a loving father to Michelle Satchell-Reid (Dwayne Moore), Damali Reid, Menelik Reid and his wife Shawnta, Omar Reid, Amiel Reid and his wife Tendresse, and Isaiah Reid. Andrew was the son of the late Lebert and Muriel Reid. He was the brother of Hubert, Derek, Pauline, Sharon, Jodie and the late Lurline Daley, Roland McBean, Cecil Reid, and David Reid. He was the cherished grandfather of Mackeile Satchell (Janice Correia) and great-grandfather of Makenzie and Marlie Satchell. Andrew is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family as well as a host of dear friends.
Andrew was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He migrated to the United States when he was sixteen years old. Andrew was a devout Rastafarian with a passion for music. He was a self-taught musician who co-founded the Reggae band “Zion Initiation”, for which he played the bass guitar and toured throughout the world from 1975-1991. Upon completion of his musical career, Andrew earned his degree from Wentworth University and worked in Construction as a supervisor in the Boston area. He was a very talented finished carpenter, and he eventually went on to establish his own successful construction company “FDR Construction”. Andrew loved his family who were his number one priority. He took joy in always being surrounded by family and friends, and was often playing the role as the family videographer and photographer. An avid reader, he and his wife Lynda often shared the many thousands of books they read. He was a special person with an enormous heart. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.
Visiting hours on Friday June 17, 2022, from 4-8PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 18, 20222 at 10 AM at St. Gregory Church, 2215 Dorchester Avenue.
Interment Oak Lawn Cemetery, Boston.
A repast will immediately follow the interment.
