Obituary for Frank J. Stout

Frank Joseph Stout, of Milton, died at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, after a period of failing health. He was 83 years old.

Born in Boston on December 22, 1939, the son of the late Frank A. Stout and Virginia M. (Downey) Stout. A lifelong resident of Milton, Frank was a graduate of BC High (1957) and The College of the Holy Cross (Class of 1962) where he played football. He then proudly served his country in the US Army.

An insurance salesman by profession, Frank was an active member of the Milton community. A Town Meeting member and a member of the Milton American Legion Post 114. For many years, Frank participated in the Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day ceremonies in Milton. He was a proud American who supported all veterans and members of the US Military. Frank was a longtime coach in the Milton Little League and a founding member of the popular Yaz League in Milton.

For all his life, Frank especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots. However, his favorite sporting event each year was the Army Navy football game. An avid reader of military history, Frank treasured his trips to Normandy France, Guam, Saipan and Pearl Harbor. Frank enjoyed doing his crossword puzzle or sudoku to the sounds of his favorite jazz and blues musicians.

He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Marlene for 48 years and supportive father to his son Michael, priding himself by never missing a game or activity. He was a doting “Papa” to CJ, Mikey and Olivia and cherished every moment spent with them, as they were his true treasures. He loved his extended family and enjoyed his many true and lasting friendships, never missing a chance to argue politics. Frank was a people person who seemed to know everyone.

Beloved husband of Marlene A. (Van Volsen) Stout. Loving father of Michael W. Stout and his late wife Jessica of Braintree. Loving grandfather of Celia Josephine “CJ” Anderson of Guam and Michael Edward Stout and Olivia Margaret Stout of Braintree. Brother of Elizabeth “Libby” and her husband Peter Seaver of Kalamazoo, MI, Kathleen “Kate” and her late husband John “Biff” Jenney of Wayland, Virginia “Ginny” and her late husband James Burau of Venice, FL and the late Michael J. Stout. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

I salute Frank Stout as a fellow Veteran and a friend. He was a great help to me as I took on the responsibility to be Milton's Director of Veterans Services in Milton. He was the most ardent supporter of our men and women in uniform. God Bless him and his family. - Kevin J Cook USN (Ret)
