Evelyn Young, 86 of Dorchester passed away on August 19, 2023. Ms. Evelyn Young was born on May 23rd, 1937 in Millington, TN to the late Nellie (Mukes) & Albert Hurd of Memphis, Tennessee. She was one of nine children.

Evelyn Young graduated from Barret's Chapel School in Arlington, TN. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Jesse Young; to this union were born 11 children. In 1960, she worked as a Cinema Attendant. She served as a community leader and a foster parent who she loved and nurtured many children. To know her was to love her. She kept her family close. Evelyn enjoyed many hobbies: church, listening to old school gospel, family, cooking, baking desserts, holiday gatherings, shopping, traveling, watching sports, attending the dog and horse track. Evelyn was a fashionista and took pride in her appearance.

Evelyn Young accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and later joined Williams Chapel A.M.E Church in Millington, TN.

After moving to Boston, Evelyn Young joined the Inspirational Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Calvin Winston where she served as a faithful usher and trustee member.

She is survived by her five children; Helen Reeder, Derick Joyner, Sharnda Young, Jesse Young ( Boston, Massachusetts)

Earnest Reeder (Memphis, Tennessee), and 2 daughter -n-laws Carolyn Tate Reeder and Sadie Hurd of Memphis, TN and God-children Carlisha Frazier-Laurent, Cassandra and Kim Williams (Boston, MA) five sisters and three brothers: Fannie Winston, Ruby Moore, Barbara Jones, Lewis Hurd and T.J. Hurd all of Memphis, TN and a host of brother-n-laws, sister-n-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family & friends. She is proceeded in death by her three daughters; Brenda Hurd, Nellie Mae Hurd, & Donna Sanders as well as her three sons; Gregory Young, Floyd Hurd & Terry Reeder; 2 sisters and one brother; Idella Hall, Callie Hunt, & Robert Hurd. She will be greatly missed!!!!

Visitation will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Wednesday, August 30th from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
