Obituary for Evelyn Agatha Charles
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother Evelyn Agatha Charles on August 6, 2023.
Evelyn Agatha Charles was a beacon of light and love in our lives, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, her unwavering support for family and friends, and her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born on December 30,1930 in the Caribbean Island Trinidad and Tobago to Joseph and Nelcia Felix. She was 1 of 4 children: Ruben, Anita (deceased), and Nathan. Evelyn Agatha Charles led a remarkable life marked by admirable qualities. At an early age of 12, her mother passed way. As a result, she was propelled into motherhood as she began raising her younger brother Ruben. In her early 20s, she married Ruthven Charles and together they were blessed with 4 children Lystra, Lenora, Timothy, and Angela.
Evelyn migrated to United States of America in 1970 where she built a life for herself working as an Au Pair. Upon arriving in America, she immediately was focused on reuniting with her children. In 1977 she achieved her goal and was reunited with her 4 children. Evelyn dedicated her life to her family. As a mother, she always made sure her children received love, shelter, and support. As a grandmother she was instrumental in shaping the lives of her grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit, gentle guidance, and endless patience will forever be etched in the fond memories they carry with them.
In 1989, Evelyn became a widow. She never remarried. She focused her life on her children and grandchildren.
Spiritual Life
The mantra of Sister Evelyn Charles was “if I could help somebody as I travel along, then my living will not be in vain.”
Sister Evelyn Charles accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in her life after being inspired by her mother’s life and faith in the Lord. She was a faithful member of two churches in the Boston area, The Peoples Evangelistic Center (PEC) and Grace Church of All Nations for many years. As an active member, Sister Evelyn Charles served in various roles and areas of ministry which included Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, Evangelism, and Mission & Outreach Ministry. One of the memorable Outreach trips was to Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada.
As Prayer Warrior with a passion to teach and encourage every person she encountered. She ministered at the Framingham Women's Prison, Concord and Shirley Men's Prison, as well as Lunenburg Pre-Release Prison faithfully every month for several years. She enjoyed feeding and reaching out to the poor and the lost at any cost.
Sister Evelyn Charles was a generous giver of her time, her resources, her love, and her laughter that echoed through every room. She loved reading, teaching, and talking about the Word of God and was not afraid to let you know when you or your actions did not align with theWord of God. Sister Evelyn Charles was not afraid to speak up and speak out against foolishness and hypocrisy and did it with the love of Christ.
One of her favorite times of ministry besides going to church on Sunday, followed by Wednesday Bible Study, and Weekly Prayer Meetings was attending multiple Women Conferences, Retreats and traveling. Sister Evelyn Charles would be greatly missed by her sisters and brothers in Christ. One of her favorite scriptures was Galatians 2:20 KJV “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
She will be immediately missed by her surviving family (2 brothers, 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren) and friends, all of whom which were touched by her love.
Rest in eternal peace, Evelyn Agatha Charles. You will forever be our guiding light and guardian angel.
