Obituary for Elaine Anne (Kieran) Gallery
Elaine Anne (Kieran) Gallery, 77, of Milton, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2024 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lymphoma of the brain.
Elaine was born in Norwalk, CT on January 22, 1947 to her loving parents, John V. and Lucy (Hall) Kieran. She and her identical twin sister, Eileen, were the youngest of four daughters, joining older sisters Marge and Mary Lou. The four formed an inseparable bond which became the foundation of an exceptional, strong, and loving extended family among all their children.
She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Norwalk, CT in 1965 before attending Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, MA. After college, Elaine worked in the social services department of Mass General Hospital.
Elaine met the love of her life, Walter, in the summer of 1971 and they were married at Shorehaven Country Club in Connecticut in 1972. They spent the beginning years of their marriage in Connecticut, where they welcomed their first daughter, Megan. In 1977, they bought Walter’s childhood home on Elm Street in Milton where they welcomed their second daughter, Heather, the following year. Their family complete, they made a lifetime of memories and cherished friendships in their wonderful neighborhood. They were fortunate enough to carry many of these relationships on when they transitioned to Pine Tree Brook (Home, Inc.) where many friends became neighbors again.
Elaine began her long career at Carney Hospital in 1990. She started as an admission representative working the night shift in the Emergency Department, a position she loved because of the front row seat it provided to all of the excitement and action of an active city ER. Over the next 30 years, she held various roles of increasing responsibility before becoming a Practice Manager of several medical offices in the Carney system. Even after “retiring” she continued to work part-time up until the pandemic; having a hard time leaving all of her cherished Carney friends behind.
Elaine’s lifelong commitment to giving back was a great source of pride and was most notably exemplified by her involvement in the St. Mary of the Hills Church parish community. She loved organizing the Ten Grand Banquet, coordinating the volunteer efforts at Shattuck Hospital and the time she spent in Haiti during a mission trip.
Over nearly 52 years, Elaine and Walter were an example of what it means to truly live out the vows of marriage. In good times they enjoyed an active social life with friends, often dining out together. In more difficult times they remained devoted and steadfast advocates for each other often worrying more about the other’s well being than their own.
Elaine’s most treasured role in life was that of “Gigi” to Lexa, Maddie, Leighton and Nathan. If you spent any time with her at all, you would have heard her talk about how proud she was of each grandchild. The children equally cherished the time they spent with Gigi, who endeavored to attend as many activities as possible, and proudly displayed their artistic creations and tokens of their love throughout their home.
Elaine’s exceptional love extended to her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nephew, as well as many others. In each phase of her life, Elaine made treasured friends who remained a part of her life and support network until her final days. In any encounter, no matter how brief, Elaine always gave you her undivided attention and had a true gift for making you feel her love.
Beloved wife of Walter F. Gallery, loving mother of Megan Gallery of Milton, and Heather Sabattis and her husband, Mitchel, of Hingham. Cherished grandmother of Madelyn (“Maddie”) Gallery and Alexandra (“Lexa”), Leighton and Nathan Sabattis. Devoted sister of Mary Lou Bohn and her late husband, Larry, of Milford, CT; the late Eileen Miller and her husband, Doug, of Vero Beach, FL; and the late Marge Munger and her husband, Dave, of Stamford, CT. Beloved sister-in-law of John Gallery of Philadelphia, PA and the late Peggy and Jim Mah.
