Obituary for Edward C. Curran
Edward Curran of Dorchester died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, July 20th, surrounded by his children and family, a mere four weeks prior to his 90th birthday.
His life was full of laughter and he was strong until the very end. Ed was extremely proud of his eight children and raised them himself after his wife Marie passed at a young age. He never wavered in his dedication to his children, or his obligations to his family; and he remained a loyal and loving husband to Marie, for the rest of his days on earth.
Raised in Roxbury, Ed was a provider and caregiver from an early age. He married a pretty girl from the neighborhood, joined the Navy in 1950 and later joined the Merchant Marines to “see the world”. He finally settled in Dorchester and lived in his home for over fifty-five years. He was a lifelong member and past Secretary of the Old Colony Yacht Club and enjoyed many great friends and memories there over the years. He was also a lifelong member of Local 537 Pipefitters in Boston, and those closest to him remember him as a craftsman with his torch – he was very proud of his master skills as a Welder. He was dubbed “Bunny” by his mother at a young age, and those that grew up with him never called him anything else. In addition to being a rock-solid example of his working-class background, he was also self-educated, compassionate, and as generous as any man could be.
Our Fathers legacy lives on through his children and extended family, including Cathy Deeney of Dorchester, Edward Curran and his Wife Tina of Plymouth, Elaine Cook of Kingston, Christine Heneghan of Dorchester, Mary Lima of Monson, Michael Curran and his Wife Sheri of Houston, TX, Bill Curran and his Wife Lindsay of Melrose, John Curran and his Fiancé Michelle Murphy of Dorchester, seventeen Grandchildren, five Great-Grandchildren and more to follow as the years go on. May God Bless and watch over our Dad, and the entire “Greatest Generation”.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ann Church, 243 Neponset Ave., Dorchester. Monday July 26 at 12:30 PM. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester, Sunday 2-6PM. Interment in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. All who loved, appreciated, and respected him are welcomed.
