Obituary for Dorothy B. Cooper

Ms. Dorothy Berry Cooper, age 75 passed away Saturday morning on December 28, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 20, 1949 in Rocky Ford, Georgia to the late Henry and Nicey Moore Berry. She was the youngest of six children.

Dorothy attended high school in Georgia and in 1967, married the late Leon Cooper and through this union they had one daughter. She later relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, joining her older siblings.

While in Boston, she became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rafe David Kelly (founder) in 1992. During that time she became an active member of the Womenโ€™s Club. Dorothy later reinstated her membership at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the Reverend Art J. Gordon.

In 2015, Dorothy retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a contracts officer for thirty years. She enjoyed her job, especially during the busiest times.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter: Arnita (Leroy) Heyward of Mattapan, MA; two sisters, Bernice Young of Dorchester, MA, and Earnestine (Marion) Kea of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law Levania (Henry) Berry of San Diego, CA; brother-in-law Jack P. Johnson (Laura) of Dorchester, MA; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Dorothy Heyward of Mattapan, MA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
