Obituary for Donna (Riggio) Hutchinson

Donna M. (Riggio) Hutchinson, 76, of Quincy, passed away October 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Donna was raised in Charlestown MA where she met her soul mate and husband Jim. They immediately started a young family living in a small apartment until they bought their first home in Dorchester. Donna was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed family above all, especially around the holidays. Frequent weekend trips to visit family in Billerica or Medford and weekly visits to her in-laws in Dorchester for dinner and card games, whist in particular. Donna always put her family first, she always looked out for her children before taking care of herself. She was a fiercely devoted wife and mother.

After her children became older, Donna entered the workforce and had a long career as a medical administrator and continued working for several years after her husband retired. Donna was always busy, either working, or taking care of her family and others. She didn’t seem to have an off button. She was always the first one out of bed every morning to make sure Jim and the kids had what they needed for the day.

Donna was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan, and when the game wasn’t on, she enjoyed video games and reading.

Over the last decade, Donna heroically battled dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She was brave and strong. Until the very end she remained selfless putting the needs of others above hers.

Beloved wife of the late James Q. Hutchinson. Loving mother of, James Hutchinson and his partner Elena Resendes of Stoneham, Anne Silvia and her husband Andrew of Fort Myers, FL, Paul Hutchinson and his wife Gail of Canton, and Amy Hutchinson of Bridgewater. Cherished grandmother of James Hutchinson, Domenic Mulvey, Hannah Bouve, Julia Hutchinson, and the late Emily Hutchinson. Great grandmother of Ayden and Avery Hutchinson. Donna is also survived by her sisters Jill Griffin of Billerica, Mildred Riggio of Charleston, SC, Stephanie Heath of Moore, SC and Catherine Moore of North Port, FL and was the adored aunt to many nieces and nephews.

I met Donna at Newbridge where she was a resident along with my father. She moved in just after he did. She had such a warm and kind demeanor. I always enjoyed seeing her smile and spending a little time relaxing and chatting together. I remember some initial caution and confusion about the transition to Newbridge being replaced by an obvious contentment and will miss her. My condolences, Matt Trainor
