Dola Marie Thelwell-Allen, commonly known as Joanne, Joanie, Jay, and Jojo passed away on January 22, 2022.

Dola was born on March 22, 1959 on the beautiful island of Jamaica. At the the age of 8, she migrated to England to join her mother, Vina Thelwell and step-dad, Ivan Thelwell. In 1970, the family moved to Boston, MA to pursue the American dream. After graduating from Mission Hill High School, she enrolled at Boston University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Thereafter, she received her Master’s degree in education at Cambridge College in 1983.

Over the years, she became ill due to the condition of her kidneys, but she still managed to maintain that radiant smile! Her beloved late husband, Alexander J. Allen, wanting to honor his marital vows, donated a part of himself to preserve her life. This new kidney offered Dola the opportunity to function as a new individual again! She traveled to many destinations, such as: Italy, Hawaii, Paris, New Orleans and England. Dola enjoyed gardening, specifically growing fresh vegetables, which she also enjoyed eating. Dola was a very compassionate and generous person and she loved others as she loved herself.

Dola leaves to celebrate her life, her brothers: Keith Roland, Clive, Bryant T. and Bryan; her sisters: Brenda, Laurene and Dionne; her aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, godchildren and friends. Her memory will live forever in our hearts!
