Obituary for Diane Marie McKenzie

Diane (Booth) McKenzie, 55, of Sandwich. Devoted mother of Joseph McKenzie of Sandwich, Sam McKenzie of Dorchester, Jack McKenzie of Sandwich and her late infant daughter Rita Christine. Cherished daughter of Rita (Coyle) Hotin of Braintree, the late John F. Booth, Jr. and the late W. Joseph Hotin. Loving sister to Michael Booth of Portsmouth, NH and Christine Booth of Quincy. Sister-in-law of Catherine Burke and treasured aunt to Jonathan Booth and his wife Teresa, Nick Booth, Alec Booth and Shannon Booth. Much-loved cousin to her many Coyle and Booth cousins. Respected nurse and colleague to the amazing medical team at Cape Cod Hospital. Diane was considered a friend by everyone she met and she leaves behind a legacy of friendship and love to her many friends and co-workers.

Diane was an un-containable force of energy and wit, and an inspiration of selflessness who brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew her. Above all else, she cherished her three boys and made it her lifeโ€™s work to see them happy, productive and successful. She embraced her 27-year career as a nurse, especially the past 20 years at Cape Cod Hospital. Dianeโ€™s deep commitment to family and friends ensured that she would never willingly miss an event, and she bonded immediately with every group she met. Having surrounded us all with unparalleled love and support, Diane has left an indelible mark on each one of us.

We were all very shocked to hear of the passing of Mrs. McKenzie. She and my mother were good friends and coworkers, for years, me and her son Joe went to school together, first in the Sandwich Public Schools, then all throughout our middle and high school years at Riverview. Both our mothers put a lot of time and effort every year to volunteer in the RV Advancement Office and to co-chair the silent auction at the schoolยดs annual gala. Me, Joe, Madisen and Jane were all best friends during that time and so all our families got along pretty well too. Prayers for the McKenzie family

This one hit hard. Auntie Diane was not only an amazing mother, she was also an exceptional nurse and role model. One of my biggest accomplishments in life was having my Auntie Diane pin me after I completed my nursing degree. She always gave me that push and told me to never give up. To my beautiful cousins Joseph, Sam, and Jack, although she's no longer with us, she will always be remembered. I see many of your mother's greatest qualities in each of you. Her kindness, generosity and caring nature was contagious, and her memory will live on forever. Diane, the impact you made in our lives will forever be appreciated.

Diane was a pillar of the earth. My aunt talked about Diane so much that I reached out to her and she referred me for a job at Deaconess Hospital. She was so loved there! We proceeded to go through nursing school together and through the years we bonded. I always loved seeing and chatting with her about family and work. She was a hoot and a beautiful soul. I am heartbroken for Rita, Diane's boys and her extended family and friends. xoxo
