Obituary for Darlene Yvette Boggs

Darlene Yvette Boggs was born on November 16, 1968 in Boston, MA at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital to two loving parents. To both the late Ralph James Boggs, II and Wynola Boggs (Epps). When she entered the world, she became a sister to Sharon Epps and later, the older sister to the late Ralph James Boggs, Ill and Valeria Boggs.

During her youth, she attended the Thompson Middle School with all of the neighborhood kids and later attended Hyde Park High School. During her adolescent years, she developed a love for photography, music, arts, culture and elevating her mindset. Her teachers noticed her abilities and by her being book smart, she was on an upward path. It was also during those youth and adolescent years, she knew she was smart and other kids could sense it. Some tried to test her knuckle game, thinking she was a simple, yet quiet nerd…they were proven otherwise.

She had found her career path in high school. By the time she graduated in 1987, beginning in the Grants Assistant department in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and continued her trend upwards. She amassed many achievements, awards and recognition for her work along the way. For well over 30 years, she was a force within the agency and was well respected amongst her peers and colleagues even WITHOUT a college degree.

Despite Darlene’s fierce motherly nature, she was a loving soul. She always did whatever she could for her family and friends. Whether it was a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on or a hug you needed, she was there for you. Only if she liked you like that though. Darlene always had those kind eyes but you couldn’t play around with her too much…just ask her cousin Will. Those tough moments from her youth and adolescence would push her through rocky times. Through tough times, they mold the strongest individuals. Even after 16 years at her job, she continued to smile. Her smile shined on the biggest stage in 2003 when she graduated with her Associates Degree from Eastern Nazarene College. All those long nights, going to her Adult Studies Program, along with working a full time job working, raising a son and navigating life as a single parent, she was truly, a warrior.

Throughout Darlene’s life she endured hardships, pitfalls and struggles but it never deterred her from continuing to smile. She continued to help as much as she could, even if it was a detrement to herself. Anyone she came across, she left an imprint and a stamp on their heart whether they knew it or not. Everyone will miss her genuine nature, her infectious smile and laughter.

Darlene was called home by God and greeted at Heaven’s Door by both her father, the late Ralph James Boggs, II & her brother, Ralph James Boggs, Ill. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend to many and will be greatly missed.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Brandon, but will also be survived by him. She will also be survived by her mother, Wynola Boggs (Epps) and sisters, Sharon Epps and Valeria Boggs. Darlene will be greatly missed by an extensive list of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, extended families and co-workers.
