Obituary for Clifford George Small
Clifford George Small, a native Jamaican, sibling of 10, proud grandfather of 12, great-grandfather to 10, and proud father of two, lived until he was 89 years old. During Clifford's early adult life, he traveled to the U.S, where he experienced segregation during the uptick of the civil rights movement. During his time in the U.S, Clifford had various jobs. One line of work he constantly found himself in was construction. Clifford helped cement and plant the flowers we see at the Franklin Park Zoo. Shortly after, Clifford worked briefly with Dig Enterprises. Finally, Clifford retired from Logan Airport after a cement truck incident.
Clifford did not let his injuries deter him from finding work. Clifford joined a taxi company. During his time as a professional and gypsy driver Clifford made a lot of connections with a copious amount of people. Tons of people in the community knew him by name and would remember the conversation they had in the backseat of his car. People appreciated his restless, zen-like state and constant humility. Clifford's life wasn't just all about work. He had a deep admiration for music. Clifford enjoyed the vibrations and the big boom that could only come from a powerful speaker. Clifford loved music so much that he built an entire studio. Clifford knew how much his granddaughter loved music. He always had the microphone on so she could sing over the tracks. He’d break bread with any man. But loved to break fruit with his granddaughter. Clifford leaves behind beautiful nieces and nephews. Clifford was a tranquil spirit with a fiery heart and endless resilience. Clifford leaves behind a legacy of his adventurous, well-grounded, and admirable qualities to his two daughters. Clifford leaves behind a community of people who remember his kindness. In the great words of Clifford George Small, we all have to remember to “Take it easy.”
