Obituary for Charles A. Pickering
Charles A. Pickering, 86, of Braintree, passed away Tuesday May 24, 2022. He was born in Milton to the late Charles and Helen (Barry) Pickering. He lived in Randolph, and in Braintree for more than 50 years with his late wife, Barbara (Foley).
Charles was a longtime active member and Usher of St Thomas More Catholic Church. He worked his entire career as a Laborer and Foreman, retiring from Lorusso, Corp. of Plainville. He and Barbara often took their children on Sunday rides primarily thru the streets of Boston and enjoyed a Sundae at Baileys Ice Cream. Unbeknownst to the children, Charlie, meticulous in his craft, was inspecting previous day’s work of newly paved roads to check for puddles. He worked a second job at Central Liquors in Milton during the evenings but managed always to stay active in the lives of his children. He volunteered for many years with the Amvet Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps in Randolph and served also as the General Manager. He was the President of the PTO at Penniman School, Braintree. As the children grew older, and began participating in sports, Charlie was there in the stands and on the sidelines quietly supporting and rooting for them all. Having 8 children, you could say it was a full-time job, running from one field to the next to insure he got glimpse of them. Where his children were, so was he. After retirement, He and Barbara enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Hawaii, California, Florida, and of course Cape Cod.
Beloved husband of the late Barbara (Foley) Pickering. Loving father of Mary Benvie and her husband Brian of Norton, Charles Pickering and his wife Maureen of Brea, CA, Patricia Livorsi and her husband John of Westford, Anne Marie Papajiannis and her husband Paul of Norwell, Eileen Schoener and her husband Neil of West Yarmouth, Susan Gildea and her husband Matthew of Medina, OH, Jennifer Gibbs and her husband Richard of Walpole and Stephen Pickering and his wife Deborah of North Adams. Cherished grandfather of 28 and great grandfather of 13. He is also survived by his siblings David Pickering, Patricia Gadoury, Linda Mowles, and Gail Sim. He is predeceased by his siblings Barry Pickering, Janice O’Connell, and Michael Pickering. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
