Obituary for Catherine Yvonne Jones
Catherine Yvonne Jones, aged 65, went to be with the Lord April 15th 2021. Though her death was unexpected, in the days leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Catherine graced this world with her presence on June 29, 1955 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the loving daughter of Deacon Henry Jones Sr. and Mamie Jo Jones. Her family and close friends fondly referred to her as “Yvonne”. Yvonne grew up in the Bromley Heath Projects but spent the latter part of her childhood in Academy Homes. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1973 then went on to receive an Associate degree in Applied Science in 1976. She also received a certificate in Criminal Justice Planning from Northeastern University. Yvonne worked diligently for the City of Boston for over 20 years, becoming the first Black woman to be a city planner. Later on, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2004. Yvonne later retired as a Lead Chef from UMASS Amherst. Yvonne was an Eastern Star and faithful member of Southern Baptist Church. Having been baptized by Rev. James Chance, Yvonne loved to serve God and his people. Yvonne was a member of the Women Ministry as well as a Missionary serving alongside her father.
Yvonne was the party “firecracker” filled with life who touched many lives with her generosity and passion for living. She indulged in many of the joys life has to offer such as spending time with family, dancing, cooking and traveling. She was a bibliophile who loved educating. Of all the passions in her life, none was as strong as being a devoted mother. Yvonne cherished and loved her children, Jayda and Jared Krause, more than life itself. Yvonne’s children were her life’s work and her lasting legacy.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her grandparents Nerrie Rouse and Lueteshia Jones, brother Arthur Jones and nephew Joseph Jones. She leaves behind to mourn two children Jayda Krause and Jared Krause, grandchildren Layla Krause and Saniya Krause, parents Henry Jones Sr. and Mamie Jo Jones, siblings Henry Jones Jr., Melvin Jones and Michelle Jones (spouse Robert Nunes Sr.), step sister Lucretia Bell and brother Regginald Bell, an aunt Alberta Williams, nine nieces and nephews, Angela Brittle, Mark Griswold, Lueteshia Raymond, Jennifer Montrose, Johnathan Johnson, Malcom Hughes, Anthony Bonner, Robert Nunes Jr., Endery Rouse, and eight great nieces and nephews, two great-great nieces and nephews, a goddaughter Venus Laster and a host of cousins and friends.
Her brilliance, smile and beauty will be missed by all.
Funeral Service in the Southern Baptist Church, 29 Winthrop Street, Roxbury, MA Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11 AM. Visitation in the Church prior to the Service from 9:30 AM – 11 AM. Interment Private.
Love you Granma
