Obituary for Catherine Mills

Catherine Louise Tillery (Cat or Cat T), was born on May 25th, 1938, as the fourth child of the late Charles E. Tillery and Julia M. Tillery nee Person, in Tillery, NC. Catherine attended school in Halifax County, NC and graduated from Brawley High School in 1956. After graduation, she attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) in Greensboro, NC. She joined ROTC her freshman year and was elected Air Force Queen all four years. She later received her degree in Sociology from Shaw University. After college, Catherine married her college sweetheart, Lemuel Vassar Mills, Sr., and moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1960. She worked professionally as a Supervisor in the Department of Welfare until retirement. Catherine was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Friend. She had a passion for social work, fashion and decorating. She loved shopping for her loved ones and spoiling them with gifts. She especially enjoyed travels to North Carolina to see family, walks, talking on the phone with friends and family, and spending time with her grandchildren. Catherine is preceded in death by siblings: Charles Tillery (Minnie) of Scotland Neck, NC; Perry Tillery (ex-wife, Willie Meda Clark) of Chesapeake, VA; Blanche Battle (Percy) of Mitchellville, MD; and Fred Tillery of Tillery, NC. Catherine is survived by her husband Lemuel V. Mills Sr., two beautiful and devoted children Lemuel V. Mills Jr. (Laura Wilson) and Tulsi Morishanti (Lisa), and stepdaughter, Constance Owens, her youngest sister Doris Bunch nee Tillery (Raymond) of Rocky Mount, NC, two grandchildren; Lemuel A. Mills II, and Leigha A. Mills, two step-grandchildren; Van-Diego Cooper and Constance Williams, a great grandchild Lemuel Maceo Mills, five step great-grandchildren, Caden, Madelyn, Jade, Hollis and Van-Diego II, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Services were Private.
