Obituary for Beverly McCollin

Beverly Marquita McCollin was born in St. Michael Parish in Barbados on June 21, 1951 to parents Gloria White and the late Darcy McCollin.

Beverly migrated to the United States with her brother Anderson “Bobby” to live with their dad on July 21, 1968. On July 21, 2024, Beverly celebrated her 56th anniversary living in Boston. Beverly attended St. Ambrose Primary School in Barbados and then George Washington High before completing her studies at Roxbury Girls High School.

After High School, she continued her education by taking banking courses and nursing courses. She graduated with her certification as a licensed practical nurse that launched her career into the health services for over 30 years at two well-known Boston medical facilities. Beverly began working at Harvard Vanguard as a medical secretary in the 1980’s. She was promoted to various positions during her tenure there. She later went on to serve in various roles at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital for 26 years, where she easily made friends with patients and staff alike.

Beverly had a passion for life and loved fiercely. She loved music and especially playing in the rain. One of her favorite songs was “In the rain” by the Dramatics. Anytime it would rain, she would go outside and sing that song. She was a huge fan of Carnival and would often travel to Toronto for Caribana to spend time with her favorite Aunt Maggie. New York Carnival on Labor Day and locally for Boston Carnival. If you knew Beverly, she would have her favorite drink in a flask and the party started with J’ouvert in the morning and she would be on the road all day until late into the night. She always enjoyed a good time.

Her love for family in particular her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was evident especially at Christmas- Her favorite holiday. She would cook everything for everyone, and she gave generously to her loved ones. Even in Illness, Beverly never lost her passion or humor, still making her family laugh during their visits to her. Should start many of her conversations with “I got a joke for you…” She was known as “Sexy Bev”. Her favorite color was red, and she loved dying her hair all kinds of different colors long before it was fashionable.

On July 28, 2024, Beverly passed peacefully. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her mother Gloria White; her brothers, Anderson “Bobby” McCollin and Roger White; Sisters, Laureen McCollin-Gopie (Richard) and Lorraine McCollin; her Daughters Melisha McCollin, Lakesha McCollin and Saquinna Thomas; her grandchildren: Shakia Searcy, Antwaun McCollin, Trajaharie Watkins, and Clinton King: great grandchildren, Jordyn White, Antwaun McCollin, Ja’Miyah Dixon and A’mei McCollin, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Auntie Bev, you were a ball of energy. I still can't fathom the fact that you're no longer with us. I remember when you'd call from Boston & I'd get so excited asking mom "is that Sexy Bev?". You were so family oriented and hilarious. My condolences to the entire family, especially your daughters and gran kids. It comforts me knowing that you're no longer in pain, but it saddens me that I'd never hear your voice again. I'll miss you & always love you

My Beloved Mother, you had 3 daughters and 4 Grandkids who adore you. And than came those great grands. The Holidays will never be the same without you. All I can hear you saying right now is Melisha, Lakesha, Shaquinna and when one of us will say that's not our name if one was presence. You will go you know who I'm talking too. You know my favorite memory of you is you telling everyone you came in contact with that I was your Pretties Baby. All I can say now is you held on for as long as you did and you will be miss by many. Especially Those Grands and GreatGrands. "Say Ma"!

My beloved, beautiful cousin aka: "sexy Bev". Memories of fun, laughter, partying, speaking pig-Latin, carnivals in Boston, Toronto and Barbados will always warm my heart. We shared so many good times together that I will treasure. As we both got older we started to pray before ending our daily phone calls and we always said "I love you". I am thankful for knowing you, for being my cousin/sister. May the wings of an angel guide you to eternal peace. RIP ❤️ Michelle McCollin
