Obituary for Annette Lillie Smith
Annette Lillie Smith was called home on May 25, 2022. In her final moments she was surrounded by an abundance of love from family and friends. Her passing was sudden and the family is suffering a great loss, but God has gained a beautiful angel.
Annette (Nette) Lillie Smith was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 16th, 1964 to two young and ambitious parents, the late L.C. Smith and Mattie Elizabeth Reese-Smith. In 1969 her widowed father made the decision to relocate to Roxbury, MA to provide her with better opportunities. Although the move came with trials and tribulations L.C. prevailed against the adversities encountered. With the aid of his cousin Jean and Eldest daughter Carolyn he raised Annette to be a God fearing, strong, courageous, independent, resilient young woman. With the passing of both parents by her late 30’s Annette was still filled with love, hope, and an incredible will to fight!
Annette was eager to learn and understood the importance of education. She pushed herself to pursue the endless opportunities for a brighter future. She recieved the larger part of her education through Boston Public Schools.
Annette was a extremely selfless woman with a huge heart. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. Even with such a kind and gentle heart she was not one to play with. She worked many jobs that serviced the needs of others because of her instinctively nurturing soul.
In 1998 her tenacity, resilience, strength, and perseverance would capture the heart of Lewis Scott, her soul mate of 24 years. While with Lewis, Annette who he lovingly calls Lillie was able to find the stability, care, and nurturing she deserved. Lewis allowed her to exercise the best parts of her, while loving her through her flaws. They took care of eachother with all they had to give.
In 2006 the two of them relocated to Mansfield, MA allowing her to become a stay at home wife and mom. Annette pushed all of her children to pursue an education and was very proud to watch them bring her home many diplomas.
Annette spent her later years of life, creating memories with family and friends, working on her garden, being fabulous while getting her hair and nails done, shopping, and loving on herself and family ever so tender and gentle. Of the things she spent her time doing, being a grandmother was her favorite. She felt blessed and honored to be called Nana. She would say being a grandmother required a special kind of love.
Annette Lillie Smith was a devoted daughter and partner. She was a caring mother and grandmother. A special sister, aunt, and friend. Annette was truly one of a kind who had a heart of gold. Her foot prints are embedded in the hearts of all she has come into contact with. She was preceeded in death by her parents L.C. Smith and Mattie Elizabeth Reese-Smith. Her siblings Wilburt, Carolyn, Lester, and Baby Smith. Her grandchildren Jamiah and Iz’ryella. She leaves behind her partner and best-friend, Lewis Scott, her two brothers Robert, and Maurice Smith, and her six children Latia Smith, Tremaine Smith, Maurice Smith, Isabel Rios-Smith, Keyanna Wilson-Smith, and Rafael Rios-Smith. She took joy in being the grandmother of Dennis, Tremaine, Maurice, Jayla, Jamiah, Janiah, Jade, Tyree, Zahra, Kayden and Jamauree. Anette also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews she helped raise, cousins, and friends.
