Obituary for Anne Dora (Stokes) Walker
Anne Dora (Stokes) Walker, of Dorchester, died suddenly on January 12, 2021.
Anne was born in Richmond County Georgia on October 25, 1937 to the late Jessie Mae Stokes and Willie Stokes. She was the oldest of five children and leaves one surviving sister, Bertha Saxon (Augusta, GA). There’s so much that can be said about her, she was good-hearted, helped a lot of people, and, as an ordained minister, married many couples. She deeply loved family, and family loved her. Anne loved shopping (Building 19 was her favorite place to be), fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, have so many memories with her and often spent a lot of time together playing at her house.
Anne came to Boston in the 1960s, and married Elbert Walker while pregnant with her youngest son, Michael, in 1961. The family moved to the house on Centre St. in 1975, where they lived and spent a considerable amount of time together throughout the years.
Anne worked for Gillette Manufacturing for many years before retiring. She Loved to shop especially at Building 19 where she could find all the bargains. She loved her family, entertaining and could never resist a fried chicken dinner. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.
She was the beloved wife of the late Elbert Walker and loving mother of Linda Diane Smith of Dorchester (2 children, 3 grandchildren), Marilyn Smith of Dorchester (2 children, 5 grandchildren), Warren Walker of Dorchester (3 children, 6 grandchildren), Dwayne Walker of Delaware (4 children, 13 grandchildren), Dennice Smith of Dorchester (4 children, 12 grandchildren), Gaynell Stafford (and husband, Eugene Stafford. 4 children, 5 grandchildren) of Brockton and Michael Walker of Dorchester. Sister of Bertha Sexton of Augusta Georgia and the late Ruby, Louis, Lester Cornelia, Thomas, and Willie. Cherished grandmother of 64 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family, and friends.
