Obituary for Anne C. Clervil

Anne Consilia Clervil, a devoted woman of faith, resilience, and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center in Dorchester, MA.

Born on February 15, 1933, in Bas Limbe, Haiti, Anne was the beloved daughter of Constant Clervil and Rejeanne Destine. As a young girl, she moved to Port-au-Prince, where she began working as an agricultural trader, known in Haiti as Madan Sara. In this role, she traveled vast distances, exchanging cash for goods to sell fresh produce in urban markets, often carrying goods on foot from rural areas. Anne was known to support struggling farmers, frequently purchasing their surplus harvests to help carry them over to the next season.

Anne was the proud mother of three sons: Reynald (deceased), Michel (deceased), and Théophile. In the early 1980s, she immigrated to the United States, first settling in West Palm Beach, Florida, before making Boston, MA, her home.

A devout Christian, Anne had an unwavering calling to preach and spread the word of Christ. From the 1990s until health challenges prevented her, she could often be found ministering in Mattapan Square, Dudley (now Nubian) Square, Codman Square, Egleston Square, and Peabody Square in her traditional all-white 'uniform'. Her experience as a Madan Sara in Haiti—walking miles to deliver goods—mirrored her ministry in Boston, where she tirelessly traveled throughout the city and wider metro, sharing her faith in her native Haitian Kreyòl.

Anne is lovingly remembered by her sole remaining son and grandchild—one residing in the Boston area and the other in Vancouver, Canada. Her life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and compassion, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Faith Christian Church, 301 Harvard Street, DORCHESTER on Saturday, March 15th from 9-10AM. Funeral Service to begin at 10AM. Interment at Blue Hill Cemetery, BRAINTREE. Relatives and friends invited.

I did not know her personally however I remember her in Mattapan Sq., although I did not understand her it was unmistakable that this was a woman of faith. Her white outfits were pristine! May she rest in eternal peace.
