Here For You
Dolan Funeral Homes and Cremation Services has been continuously owned and operated by the Dolan Family for over 130 years.
The Dolans, along with a valued team of dedicated, licensed funeral directors, assist with providing compassionate, dignified funeral and cremation planning in the Metro-Boston and South Shore region of Massachusetts. Their two funeral homes in Dorchester Lower Mills and East Milton Square are easily accessible and centrally located. Dolan Funeral Home and Cremation Services are proud representatives of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association and members by invitation to Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
Service and funeral service, in particular, is centered upon putting another’s needs first- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Funeral service is also about caregiving-addressing a grieving person’s needs and being a trusted advisor at a difficult time.
It is a privilege to be called upon to honor someone’s life and to assist their family and friends in preserving their memories.
Please contact Dolan Funeral Homes and Cremation Services if you seek professional guidance in planning at-need or pre-need services.
Our History
James Dolan’s son, the late Frederick J. Dolan, was an engineering major and 1925 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the family business during Boston’s influenza outbreak in the 1930’s. In 1954, Fred purchased his uncle, Charles B. Dolan’s funeral service and property at 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills.
The Dorchester site is currently one of two locations for Dolan Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The Dorchester site dates from the earliest part of the 19th century. In 1968, Frederick Dolan purchased property on both sides of the building and expanded the funeral home to twice its original size- without altering the historic integrity of the central structure.
Frederick J. Dolan, who died in 1979, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Redberry Council, member of the board of the Massachusetts Cooperative Bank, and past president of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association.
Today
In 1980, the funeral home, now led by W. Craig Dolan, son of Frederick, purchased property at 460 Granite Avenue in Milton, to provide a second facility serving the Milton, Quincy and South Shore communities.
In January 2010, the Dolan family purchased the assets of the John B. Molloy Funeral Home of Dorchester Lower Mills. In June of 2010 the Dolan family purchased the 5 Canton Avenue property of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home.
For decades, the two funeral homes were owned and operated by lifelong Milton residents, W. Craig Dolan, and his late brother, Paul F. Dolan. Both graduated from Boston College High School, Boston College, and the New England Institute for Funeral Service Education. Two of Craig Dolan’s children, Frederick J. “Jed” and Courtney, have joined the firm as licensed funeral directors. Jed and Courtney, also lifelong Milton residents, are both graduates of Thayer Academy, Providence College and The New England Institute for Funeral Service Education.
